Levi Stebbins was a cabinet maker and farmer in Chesterfield, Mass., per the Stebbins Genealogy. Either he or his son Levi (or both) had

a cabinet shop in Chesterfield.

Note: Amia Pierce is Tirzah Pierce's sister (Tirzah married Solomon Bissell and she is the Bissell 3G generation's 4th Great-grandmother), although I am unable to find a birth record for Amia, so the information about Tirzah and Amia being sisters comes from online family ancestor sources like ancestry.com, etc.  So, using this chart but substituting Tirzah Pierce (born 2 Apr 1787) for Amia Pierce, then this chart along with Bisbee Chart 2.2 and Bisbee Chart 2.3, are the family tree charts for Tirzah Pierce. Tirzah's lineage is well established: Massachusetts Vital Records 1841-1910, for 1872, V. 248, p. 67, death records for Chesterfield, MA shows that Tirzah's parents were Benjamin Pierce and Priscilla Merritt (Wade) from Scituate and that Tirzah was born in Chesterfield.  Similarly, MVR1850 shows that Priscilla Merritt was born 7 Jun 1744 in Scituate, d. of "Elisha Merritt and Priscilla."  Scituate, V. 1, p. 250.

Research: Information on research sources is available from Craig Parker.  Some of the sources used for confirming the information on the Bisbee family lines include History and Genealogy of the Families of Chesterfield, Compiled by the Bicentennial Genealogy Committee, Ruth A. Baker, Chairman (Published by the Town of Chesterfield, MA, 1962, p. 48; Genealogy of the Bisbee Family, Frank Jones Bisbee, 1956 (reprint, Decatur, MI: Johnson Graphics, 1992, Pp. 41 and 68; and Genealogy of the Bisbee Family (I), Viola Drake Bisbee, compiler, June 2000 Bisbee Family Connection, p. 3.

The Hatfield Attack

Robert and Editha also had a daughter Sarah (Thomas’ sister) who married Samuel Kellogg.  Sarah and her infant son Joseph were killed by Indians Sept. 19, 1677 in the attack on Hatfield.  Her son Samuel was taken prisoner by the Indians and carried to Canada; he eventually returned to Colchester, CT., bought land from his brother Nathaniel and married Hannah Dickinson.

While men were out working in the fields, the Indians attacked, burning houses, killing 12 people and capturing 21.  It is likely that Samuel was returned from Canada by Benjamin Waite and Stephen Jennings, two Hatfield men whose wives and children were taken captive.

Waite, an accomlished Indian scout, and Jennings got approved as agents to bargain for the captives, built a canoe and went up Lake George and Lake Champlain in the winter to Quebec City, Canada.  They may have been the first English colonists on Lake Champlain.  They were able to secure the release of 17 captives and returned to New England in May 1678.  A quarter century later, Waite was killed in the Deerfield Massacre that was part of Queen Anne’s War.
